Fabrizio Romano confirms Tottenham have the right outlook on Roberto De Zerbi

Tottenham Hotspur have not won a single game in five Premier League matches to start the 2026/27 season despite signing nearly 400 million pounds worth of players, and questions are starting to be asked of De Zerbi from within, as more fans are frustrated with the results following a brutal 3-2 loss to new rivals Aston Villa heading into the September international break.

But more fans of Tottenham are still backing De Zerbi. They do not want to see Spurs run through yet another manager, especially when De Zerbi was the man who literally saved them from relegation to the EFL Championship when they probably should have went down last season based on how terribly they were playing

And even this season, Spurs look better. They have made strides in terms of how they play in possession and progress the ball into the final third, with many defenders pointing out the xG underperformance, the poor play of individual forwards, the fitness issues, all the new signings, and the bad luck with wonder goals and wonder saves against.

Tottenham are not making a reactionary move

Roberto De Zerbi's defenders now have reason to be relieved and more reason to be happy that here will be continuity, because it appears Tottenham Hotspur will not be reactionary, as they have been in the past, and are still backing their Italian manager fully.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano said of the situation, via Chris Cowlin, "Tottenham decided to back Roberto De Zerbi in the summer by trusting his ideas. Obviously everything was not possible, but it was still a very ambitious market, a very expensive market. When I say not everything, for example, Cody Gakpo, top target, but was no longer available. And then more things they wanted to do, but it’s normal. At no club do they complete the perfect market. But still, big investments and top players signed. So, the message from Tottenham, as of today, remains a message of confidence in Roberto De Zerbi. So at the moment I don’t have any indication of Tottenham exploring different ways. I’m told that Tottenham still believe in the manager. I’m told Tottenham knew it was going to take time. It’s not a switch you make from 17th in the league, saving from relegation in the final game of the season, to Champions League spots just because you spend big money."

Tottenham have to learn from their past mistakes and realize that firing managers left and right is not the answer. As Romano says, Spurs are changing a team that finished 17th in the Premier League in two straight seasons. Change, meaningful change, will not be fast, and all Spurs fans have to remember is how quickly Thomas Frank and Ange Postecoglou started their reigns and how badly they ended up performing in the Premier League by the time they left.
