Exclusive: Liverpool ready to sign €46m sensation
Liverpool are making moves to replace a club legend. Julian Ward wants an exciting sensation.
Football never stays still. It's always evolving. New players come and go. Just like life, the ravages of time catch up with us all.
That's why there are different eras. It's why some teams become conquerors and then fall from grace and some even rise from the ashes again.
This perpetual and constant change is what gives football meaning. If there was too much success for one team and no pain, the success would not feel as great.
It is because of suffering that we can experience euphoria.
No club and no anthem summarises this better than Liverpool's You'll Never Walk Alone. Right now Liverpool are walking through a storm.
But at the end of it all, there is a golden sky.
Julian Ward tasked with overseeing massive change at Liverpool
At the end of this season, an era will be coming to an end at Anfield. The last remnants of Jurgen Klopp's golden era are likely to be saying their goodbyes.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, who were two stalwarts for Liverpool over the years both have contracts expiring at the end of the season.
The former may stay on for one more year. Discussions have already taken place about a possible extension. The latter though looks likely to depart.
And so will Alisson Becker. Liverpool are unlikely to extend the Brazilian's deal which means Ward will have to be on the search to bolster the club's squad once again.
He will need to replace a club legend in Alisson.
Liverpool looking to sign Bart Verbruggen
Despite bringing in Giorgi Mamardashvili, Liverpool have doubts whether the Georgian will be capable of becoming a no.1 at Anfield. Iraola is a fan of the goalkeeper and tried to bring him to Bournemouth in the past.
However, he has so far opted to use Alisson as his first-choice.
Liverpool also have high hopes for teenager Lucca Brughmanns. However, there are also doubts that he will be ready to take over the no.1 spot next season.
The same goes for Armin Pecsi, who Liverpool believe has the potential to be a no.1 goalkeeper but the plan is for him to be sent out on loan against next season.
It's why the club are drawing up a shortlist of goalkeepers to replace Alisson with.
Anfield Watch can exclusively reveal that one of the goalkeepers the Reds are ready to sign is Brighton's Bart Verbruggen who is valued at €46m by Football Transfers.
Though it is believed Brighton's asking price would be a lot higher.
Verbruggen has always been admired by the club's scouts and there is a strong belief at Liverpool he could become a world-class goalkeeper within the next few years.
