Exclusive: Liverpool lining up move for Portuguese sensation, he's unreal
Liverpool are lining up a move for an exciting Portuguese sensation. He is an unreal talent.
Even though the football we are witnessing on the pitch at the moment isn't always pretty, it's an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan right now.
Seeing the beginning of a project blossom into something special is the best part of being an avid fan.
The glory and the sheer euphoria of lifting trophies under Jurgen Klopp was incredible. But it was even sweeter having endured the journey along the way.
It's the journey that matters the most. Overcoming those hard times. Just like the club's anthem goes: through the storm, there's a golden sky.
And there is lots of optimism to believe that the golden sky isn't too far away in Andoni Iraola's reign either.
How Andoni Iraola is building an exciting future for Liverpool
Last season was a dark time to be a supporter of the club. Arne Slot had delivered a Premier League title the season prior.
However, he had lost touch with his dressing room and the subsequent defeats and performances were difficult to bare. Slot wasn't suited to oversee this change. The Dutchman was a great coach but he was unwilling to work with younger players.
Iraola is the direct opposite.
He relishes the prospect of nurturing Liverpool's exciting young talents and helping them to reach their potential.
That is evident even very early on in his Liverpool career.
The likes of Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha have flourished under him in recent weeks. In fact during the last few matches, they've arguably been Liverpool's best players.
Iraola has also worked wonders with Lewis Koumas, and Jeremy Jacquet has grown in stature, too.
Liverpool lining up move for Portuguese star Diogo Costa
Soon, Iraola is going to have to contend with more squad turmoil at Anfield, too.
It is expected that Alisson Becker will leave the club upon the end of his contract next summer.
Liverpool are expected to replace him Anfield Watch understands.
Internally Liverpool are uncertain whether Giorgi Mamardashvili would be ready to step in and become no.1. Meanwhile, there are high hopes for Lucca Brughmanns but again Liverpool are unsure whether he is ready for Premier League football just yet.
The same notion applies to Armin Pecsi, who Liverpool have a five-year plan for and believe by the end of it he will be first-team ready. But the plan for him next season is to be loaned out again.
It is why, Anfield Watch can exclusively reveal that Liverpool are targeting a move for FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. The Portuguese sensation is an incredible shot-stopper and also extremely comfortable with his feet.
Liverpool believe Costa, with his experience and ability would be an ideal replacement for Alisson. Which is why he is high on the shortlist to replace the Reds' Brazilian star.
