Crystal Palace Target Gareth Southgate as Interim Manager with Oliver Glasner’s Future in Doubt

Crystal Palace are trying to persuade Gareth Southgate to take over as interim boss until the end of the season with Oliver Glasner’s future hanging in the balance, reports Football Insider.
Glasner will leave the club at the end of the season regardless, but may call time on his spell at the Selhurst Park before then with the Austrian’s future again thrown into doubt following Palace’s 1-1 UEFA Conference League draw Zrinjski Mostar on Thursday night.
'I can't do it'
"We're not in the best moment right now. I understand and take responsibility for everything, because I'm responsible for the whole team," Glasner said following the stalemate.
"I'm just not good enough to replace the players we sold. I'm just not good enough to integrate the new players in a way."
"It's my responsibility to get a turnaround... I can't do it. It's still one of the best Premier League seasons in the last 10 years. It just shows that the expectations are completely different.
"We're still two days until the next game and then it's my responsibility to get the turnaround, because I can't expect it from the players if I'm not that way.
"But right now, I just can't do it, because it's how I feel. It's a very challenging situation for all of us. I take responsibility for everything."
Southgate wanted by Palace
And with Glasner’s Palace future up in the air, the club are weighing up whether to bring in Southgate to see out the season.
Former Palace star Southgate hasn’t had a managerial job since leaving his position as England head coach 18 months ago.
Southgate was key as the Three Lions reached the Euro 2024 final, only to fall to a 2-1 loss to Spain in Germany.
In addition, the 55-year-old hasn’t managed in the Premier League since his spell as Middlesbrough head coach in 2009.
Frank the long-term target
Palace, though, remain on the lookout for a long-term Glasner successor, with Thomas Frank emerging as one of the favourites to succeed the 51-year-old.
Frank was relieved of his Tottenham duties earlier this month after a torrid spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium helm.
The Dane was appointed Spurs boss last June but a run of two wins in 17, a streak that leaves the club just four points above the relegation zone ahead of Sunday's North London Derby, cost the former Brentford boss his job.
Palace will hope to improve upon a run of just one win from their last 15 when they take on table footers Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
