Bring him home: Star should return to solve dire Liverpool crisis

Liverpool have a terrible crisis on the way. The return of one former star can fix that.

Liverpool will run into further transfer problems in 2027 and we're not sure there's any way around that. It yet again comes down to contract situations as the Reds haven't got entirely on top of some massive ones.

Virgil van Dijk is the biggest, without question. Maybe he re-signs but there's a very high chance that the Dutchman moves on after nearly a decade at the club.

Replacing him is essentially impossible, of course, even if Liverpool will have to try. But he's not even the only such case in the squad next summer.

Alisson Becker will also be out of contract and it's quite clear that Liverpool don't have an immediate replacement on their books. Giorgi Mamardashvili has failed to stand out when called upon - and that will naturally thrust the Reds back into the transfer market.

Caoimhin Kelleher for the big return

Liverpool have completed a deal for Lucca Brughmans to join the club next summer but we'd be genuinely shocked if the pick to replace Alisson was an 18-year-old with minimal experience from the Belgian league. Instead, we think they'll want to move for an experienced first-choice.

And is there a better choice than Caoimhin Kelleher? We're not sure there is. The Irishman has excelled since moving to Brentford last summer, putting in solid performances and establishing himself as one of the best in the league.

This is a goalkeeper who, if not for Alisson, would likely be Liverpool's no.1 right now. He's a homegrown talent and one with experience across every major competition - he's even been between the stick as the Reds clinched trophies.

Snapping him back up, even for big money, would not only help the homegrown quota but also guarantee Liverpool a goalkeeper they know can perform at the highest level for them. That's the kind of guarantee you need at the back and it's incredibly difficult to find.

But in Kelleher, Liverpool do have it. They just need to get him back. And we think that's got to be the move if Alisson does decide to move on next summer.

No one can replace the Brazilian properly. Kelleher may just be the closest, though.
