Blow for Emery as ‘versatile’ Aston Villa favourite now ruled out of Old Trafford clash on Sunday
Matty Cash will miss Aston Villa’s trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday through suspension.
The highly-rated full-back, hailed as ‘versatile’ by manager Unai Emery, was shown his fifth yellow card against Fulham over the weekend, ruling him out of matchweek 10.
Matty Cash suspended for United vs Villa
Cash was cautioned in the 76th minute of Villa’s 1-1 draw with Fulham, which they will undoubtedly see as two points dropped rather than one gained, given the Cottagers failed to find the back of the net themselves.
Indeed, the contest was drawn level in the second half via a Zion Suzuki own-goal, while Villa’s opener was netted by in-form frontman Nicolas Jackson in the 39th minute.
They will now be keen to make amends and return to winning ways in M16 this weekend, where they take on a United side who have not won in the Premier League since August.
Michael Carrick’s men slumped to a 2-0 defeat last time out against Chelsea despite overseeing an improved first 45 minutes of action.
Lisandro Martinez’s quickfire bookings and subsequent sending-off essentially gifted the hosts the win, as United were unable to find a way back into the game as soon as they went down to 10 men.
United and Villa in UCL action this week
Both United and Villa are in action before the league gameweek gets underway, however.
The Reds host AS Roma tomorrow night in a Champions League tie at 8pm, while Emery’s side will be in Catalonia to take on Barcelona at the same time.
It’s now thought that any potential managerial change will wait until after United’s next two fixtures, as club action then hits pause on November 8 for another international break.
