Bayern Munich have suffered a blow in the race to sign Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel in the next transfer window.

The 16-year-old has emerged as a target for Bayern after he requested the Old Trafford club to terminate his registration.

We covered a report this month that Bayern were still in contact with the player’s camp, but the player is unlikely to move to Germany.

JJ Gabriel future: Off To Spain?

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Gabriel is expected to join Real Madrid from Man Utd during the January transfer window.

While the deal is not finalised yet, it is at an advanced stage. The youngster is set to sign a long-term contract with Los Blancos.

There was a strong interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona, while Man Utd also tried to convince the player to stay put, but Madrid have won the race for his signature.

Christian Falk has confirmed the report from Ornstein, adding that while Bayern’s interest was genuine, they were not willing to match Madrid’s offer for Gabriel.

Bayern suffer yet another transfer blow?

The Bavarian giants are currently going through a mini-crisis in their attacking department.

Ismael Saibari has undergone surgery on a ligament injury, while Serge Gnabry has been ruled out for the rest of the year with hamstring issues.

With Luis Diaz and Jamal Musiala also on the sidelines, Bayern’s attacking depth has been severely tested.

Moreover, Bayern need a genuine left winger to complete Diaz, and therefore, they were heavily interested in Gabriel, scored 29 goals in 32 appearances for United’s Under-18s.

There were suggestions that Bayern might be interested in doing some business in January, but Falk has confirmed that any transfer regarding wingers will only take place in the summer.

The youngster is widely considered one of the club’s most exciting prospects, but he has grown frustrated with a lack of opportunities at Ola Trafford.

Missing out on a top talent like Gabriel is definitely a blow for Bayern, but even worrying is the fact that they are frequently losing their targets to Spanish clubs.

During the summer window, Bayern were linked with moves for Anthony Gordon and Yan Diomande, but the Bavarian giants missed out on both of them, as they moved to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
