Bayern Munich vs Arsenal: Match report
A cagey start saw little goalmouth action in the opening 20 minutes, but Arsenal suffered an early blow when Bukayo Saka was forced off through injury.
Riccardo Calafiori failed to hit the target from just two yards out, before Bayern quickly launched a counter-attack, with Serge Gnabry testing David Raya with a tame left-footed effort that the Arsenal goalkeeper comfortably saved.
Eberechi Eze charges into the box from the left and fires a fine strike into the bottom corner, with Josip Stanisic playing him onside on the opposite side of the pitch.
Harry Kane has not only been a prolific goalscorer for Bayern, but over the last 18 months, he has also proved his quality as a playmaker.
The England captain played a magnificent through ball, perfectly weighted to split the defence and find Alphonso Davies, who finished with his right foot to make it 1-1.
Arsenal are always a threat from set pieces, and another dangerous delivery from Declan Rice nearly resulted in a second goal for the Gunners, but Calafiori missed by a whisker.
In the second half, Manuel Neuer rolled back the years with a stunning save to deny Gabriel, whose header bounced into the ground, before David Raya produced an equally impressive stop to keep out Dayot Upamecano’s effort moments later.
Konrad Laimer did an excellent job of getting into the penalty area and delivering a teasing ball, before Kane’s strike struck Jurrien Timber’s hand and the referee pointed to the spot.
Harry Kane stepped up and converted the penalty to score his 58th Champions League goal.
Declan Rice played a one-two with Viktor Gyokeres to get into the area before driving an unstoppable finish into the far corner, scoring his first-ever away goal in the Champions League.
Neuer produced a fabulous save to deny Jurien Timber, but Vincent Kompany will be more worried by Luis Diaz’s injury.
