Barça reopen Gol 1957 for Aston Villa under strict monitoring after Clásico incidents
FC Barcelona has lifted the precautionary suspension of the Spotify Camp Nou's singing section, which returns this Tuesday for the Champions League visit of Aston Villa. The fan groups have pledged respectful behavior, and the club warns that repeated incidents risk the stadium being closed.
The singing section is back, but on probation. FC Barcelona lifted the temporary ban on Gol 1957 after club officials who run the stand met spokespersons from its supporters’ groups on Monday. Those representatives formally committed to promoting civil and fully respectful behavior in their section. The club will closely and strictly monitor compliance with the agreements reached.
The timing matters on the pitch. Barça sit eighth in the Champions League league-phase table, with six points from their first three matches. Tuesday’s game against Aston Villa is a night when the team needs its loudest stand.
In its reopening statement, the club praised the groups’ pledge. It said the section plays an important part in supporting the team throughout matches. It also said it believes the incidents will not happen again if everyone keeps their commitments, which would benefit members, fans and the club.
The Clásico left a trail of incidents in Gol Sud
The closure followed the 2-1 Clásico loss to Real Madrid. Among the problems logged by LaLiga were insults aimed at Marc Cucurella and José Mourinho, Infobae reported. Fans threw bottles, cans, lighters and a vape while Real Madrid celebrated their second goal. None of the objects hit the visiting players.
The throwing triggered the first phase of the anti-object-throwing protocol. The referee recorded the stoppage in the match report. A home supporter also struck Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, and insults came from both sets of fans.
The incidents were located in sectors 23 and 24 of the Gol Sud end, the area occupied by the Gol 1957 group, El Español reported. LaLiga sent its report to the RFEF disciplinary committee and to Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission.
The club announced the suspension on October 29, 2026, for the home league match against Alavés. Disciplinary proceedings had been opened against Barça and some of its members for conduct contrary to the values of sport. The club warned that this behavior has already brought repeated financial penalties and puts it at risk of having the stadium closed.
The team won big without its singing section
The empty stand did not slow the team. On October 31, Barça beat Alavés with two goals each from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal. Fermín López and Anthony Gordon scored one each. Barça led 4-0 at halftime, and Mariano Díaz scored the visitors’ only goal in the 84th minute. The win kept Barça top of LaLiga.
The reopening was signaled from the start. When it announced the closure, the club said it hoped to bring the section back for Aston Villa, as long as talks with the groups fixed the problem. Those talks delivered a pledge, not a blank check.
The club’s areas that manage the stand will now watch the agreement in practice. Barça’s stated goal is to stamp out the behavior for good and avoid harsher penalties. The first test comes this Tuesday, when Gol 1957 fills again for Aston Villa.
