Aston Villa stun Manchester City as Jackson declares: “This is just the beginning”
Nicolas Jackson has said Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Manchester City is 'just the beginning' for the club's new-look side.
Jackson scored both goals as Aston Villa ended Manchester City's perfect start to the Premier League season, handing Enzo Maresca his first league defeat.
The Senegalese striker opened the scoring inside six minutes when he lashed high past Gianluigi Donnarumma, as Villa made a quick-fire start to the contest.
Erling Haaland brought Manchester City level on 52 minutes, only for Jackson to restore the advantage. The summer signing's sharp finish went through Donnarumma and squeezed in, in a moment the Italian goalkeeper will not want to see back.
The result means Aston Villa are the first team since Liverpool in 2016 to win three consecutive league games against the Cityzens. Villa have also won four successive home games against City.
For the visitors, defeat ends the opportunity to match Chelsea's record of nine consecutive wins to start a season.
Jackson hailed an 'incredible' performance from Aston Villa and said the side will only get better after a transitional summer.
"It was incredible, we got the win which is the most important thing. Man City are a strong team, the league leaders. Hopefully now we forget about this one and focus on the next one," he said to TNT Sports.
"I'm very happy with the manager, players and fans. We can win more games. It's easier because of the coach. It's an incredible dressing room. An incredible manager. Hopefully I can score many more goals. It's just the beginning."
