Ashley Young believes the potential appointment of Antonio Conte could represent a 'disaster' at Manchester United.

Conte has been tentatively named as an option for Manchester United if a decision is made on Michael Carrick's future, following a difficult start to the season. United have taken just seven points from seven Premier League games, increasing the pressure on Carrick's position.

Conte is out of work since leaving Napoli in the summer, and has won six league titles across England and Italy. The 57-year-old recently discussed his desire to rebuild a fallen giant, fuelling speculation over a potential move to Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United winger Young worked under Conte at Inter Milan, and has opened up on his relentless demands. He believes Conte could be a poor fit for his old side, amid his intensity.

"I've worked with him at Inter Milan, he is crazy. He is crazy," Young said to The Overlap Daily.

"He's a bit like Diego Simeone on the sidelines. You hear him non-stop. Training is intense, there's a lot of running. There was a lot that he did. The training sessions were a lot of 11 vs 11, at times a little bit boring.

"Meetings were long. When I say long, I'm talking if we lost a game, we could go in a do the meeting after the game and stop literally everything. You could be in there three or four hours.

"I think that's one of the reasons why he doesn't last long at places because, not just the players, the board he tries to test mentally. I think people get annoyed at him and they're like, no it's time for you to go.

"A lot has been talked about Manchester United's running stats. If they're not going to run and Antonio Conte goes in there, it's going to be a disaster."
