Arsenal have been dealing with several injury problems since the beginning of the season and faced another fitness concern ahead of their encounter with Liverpool, which Mikel Arteta has now addressed.

The Gunners recently welcomed Christos Tzolis back from injury, making it something of a surprise to see him start the match. The returning player was involved for almost the entire game, providing Arteta with another option after his recovery.

However, one notable absence from the Arsenal team was Eberechi Eze, who many supporters expected to start against Liverpool. The Englishman had become an important option for the manager while the Greek star was sidelined and appeared well placed to retain his place in the starting line-up.

His absence therefore raised questions among supporters, particularly given his importance to the team in recent matches. Arteta has since explained that Eze experienced a problem before the fixture, which prevented him from featuring against Liverpool.

Arteta explains Eze’s unexpected absence

Speaking after the match, the Arsenal manager revealed that the midfielder had suffered an issue before the game. He also praised the club’s medical and performance staff for their efforts in keeping players available despite the demanding schedule.

Arteta made it clear that having players fit and ready to compete every three days requires considerable work behind the scenes. He also acknowledged the importance of the medical team’s contribution to the club’s performances.

As quoted by Hayters, he said:

“We had an issue with Ebs as well.

“It was incredible that he was in the squad today.

“I want to give credit to all the medical and the performance team because what they’re doing with those boys is sort of incredible. Every three days to take care of everybody at this level

“That’s why these are the places sometimes where you win a football match or not. When you have somebody available or not and they deserve that credit.”

Arsenal receive encouragement from Tzolis return

Tzolis’ return is encouraging news for Arsenal, particularly with the club continuing to manage several fitness concerns. Having another attacking option available should help Arteta navigate the busy fixture schedule.

Although Eze’s absence was disappointing, he is not expected to remain out of action for an extended period. Arsenal will hope he recovers quickly and becomes available again as they look to maintain their momentum in the coming fixtures.
