Mikel Arteta says he will wait until the Manchester City case is fully resolved before expressing his feelings on the situation.

The Arsenal boss was asked about the fallout from the charges against City, who have been found guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, but are appealing the decision.

And Arteta stressed that the process is still ongoing, saying it would be difficult to offer a definitive view before it concludes.

“But the thing is that this has been going on for various years,” Arteta said.

“And that process is still not finished so it’s very difficult to express how I feel because it’s not resolved.

“When it’s resolved I can talk with clarity and about exactly how I feel.”

Arteta added that he believes the process should be allowed to run its course and backed those responsible for handling it.

“I think that process has to be resolved and we have to trust that the people in charge in that will do it in the timeframe they believe is the best for everybody,” he said.

Asked whether his own conscience was clear, having worked as an assistant coach at City under Pep Guardiola before joining Arsenal, Arteta replied simply: “Yes.”
