Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal know the value Viktor Gyokeres can bring and has insisted the forward is not struggling for confidence.

Gyokeres has featured just once in the Premier League so far this season, a 12-minute cameo as a substitute against Chelsea earlier this month.

The Swedish striker has found himself behind Kai Havertz in Arsenal's plans, while he has failed to take starting opportunities after underwhelming performances against Napoli and Ipswich in cup competition.

Gyokeres scored 21 goals in all competitions to finish as Arsenal's leading scorer last season, but faces an uncertain future amid limited minutes.

Speaking ahead of today's clash against Gyokeres' former club, Brighton, Arteta said there was no confidence issue with the 28-year-old. He said that Arsenal know the forward 'has the capacity to score goals'.

"No [there's no confidence issue], especially in the Premier League he hasn't played that many minutes," Arteta said in his press conference on Friday.

"Last week he played in Napoli and he had a good game. It is about moments as well and we need to give him all the support and confidence that he needs because we know the player that we have and that he has the capacity to score goals.

"We know what he can give to the team.

"The team is doing certain different things this season as well. There is nothing unique for Viktor, it is for everybody. It is my job to fit players in, find connections, and find the level of confidence for the players to give their best for the team."

Gyokeres is set to join up with Sweden for the international break, where he boasts an impressive record of 21 goals in 37 caps for the national team. Arteta said the chance of scenery could help Gyokeres rediscover his form.

"He scored a few goals [last time]. That’s what a striker needs, they need minutes and goals to boost their energy."
