Arsenal travel to face Fleetwood Town in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup tonight and in typical fashion, Mikel Arteta is likely to take the opportunity to rotate his side against lower league opposition.

The Spaniard often pounces on these chances to bring in a number of back-up players such as Kepa Arrizabalaga, Piero Hincapié, Cristhian Mosquera and Martín Zubimendi, who are all dying for regular minutes in the Gunners' first team.

While Arteta should of course involve his second-choice senior options, he can not ignore the opportunity this presents for his younger players. Hale End has produced so many fresh talents in recent seasons, but not all of them have had their chance to shine in the first team.

Travelling to a struggling League Two side is the perfect opportunity for Arsenal's academy stars to impress within the first team and it's a chance that simply just can't be ignored.

As Arsenal prepare for their trip to the familiarly named Highbury Stadium, Arteta will have plenty of Hale End stars in the back of his mind and he has clearly paid attention to those thoughts if the latest reports are anything to go by.

According to Isaan Khan of The Daily Mail, Ceadach O’Neill, Maalik Hashi, Andre Harriman-Annous and Marcell Washington are all set to be in the squad while Max Dowman and Marli Salmon are likely to be named in the starting lineup.

Dowman and Salmon have been regulars in the Gunners' cup matches since last season, and both impressed in the previous round against Ipswich Town, but the quartet who are joining them in tonight's squad are less familiar with the first team.

Harriman-Annous has made two senior appearances for Arsenal, including a start against Brighton at this stage of last year's Carabao Cup campaign, but O'Neill, Hashi and Washington are all still waiting to make their debuts in the famous red and white.

Being involved in the squad alone will be an incredible experience for the four Hale End stars, but Arteta has to take the chance to give them minutes as it's not every day he takes charge of his side against a team from three divisions below.

The early stages of the 2024/25 season proved to be a crucial time for Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly as they impressed in Carabao Cup matches against Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End before going on to play important parts in the second half of the campaign.

Tonight's trip to Fleetwood could represent the same starting point for the likes of Harriman-Annous, O'Neill, Hashi and Washington, who will all no doubt be desperate to make their mark in the first team.

Arteta may not get another chance to field these youngsters this season so he has to grasp the opportunity now and give each of the Hale End stars the minutes they deserve against Fleetwood. Ignoring that could be disastrous in his bid to bring more players through the academy into the Arsenal first team.
