Gabriel Magalhães had plenty of reasons to smile after Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, but the occasion was particularly special for the Brazilian defender.

Not only did he help Arsenal secure another clean sheet and three important points, he also marked his 200th Premier League appearance with a goal!

And judging by his post-match comments, it was a milestone that meant an enormous amount to him.

A Proud Moment for Arsenal’s Brazilian Defender

Speaking via Arsenal Media after the match, Gabriel couldn’t hide his delight.

“I feel really good, it was a nice day for me and to make my 200th Premier League appearance in this shirt is a pleasure,” he said.

“I’m really happy, and thank you to the fans for the love, but the most important thing today was the three points.”

His 69th-minute header from Ben White’s cross was his 21st Premier League goal for Arsenal and his 14th with his head. Only Olivier Giroud, with 27, has scored more headed league goals for the Gunners.

Remarkably, it was also Gabriel’s first Premier League goal from open play.

After giving everyone a scare when he required treatment during the second half, seeing him recover to score made the occasion even sweeter.

“I’m really proud of myself. Everything I do is to make myself stronger, to learn every day, and I’m really happy to make my 200th appearance with this shirt.”

Gabriel and Konsa Share a Special Moment

There was another reason for Gabriel to celebrate, with defensive partner Ezri Konsa also getting on the scoresheet.

It was the first time two Arsenal centre-backs had scored in the same Premier League match since Gabriel and William Saliba achieved the feat against West Ham in February 2024.

“[Ezri and I] just spoke about it in the dressing room,” Gabriel laughed. “We work so hard every day. Today it happened, the two centre-backs scored, so we are really happy.”

He also had some lovely words for his teammate, describing Konsa as a top guy and praising the quality he has brought to Arsenal.

For me, Gabriel’s performance summed up everything we love about him. His determination, his passion and that wonderful ability to make his presence felt at both ends of the pitch.

It’s little wonder he earned our highest player rating against Everton.

Two hundred Premier League appearances, 21 goals and another clean sheet. What a way to celebrate, big Gabi!
