Arsenal rival Liverpool and Real Madrid for wonderkid ready to command world record transfer fee
Arsenal and Liverpool are among the sides monitoring the situation of a Premier League new boy who may command a world record fee after a bright start to his career in England.
Aston Villa paid €30 million to sign goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma in the summer as their long-term replacement for Emi Martinez and the Japanese international has proven a revelation so far.
Suzuki ranks amongst the highest goalkeepers in the Premier League for save percentage as well as xG prevented, although the 24-year-old’s passing ability and distribution have attracted the eyes of a number of major teams already.
According to TEAMtalk, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are keeping a close watch on Suzuki’s progress after being convinced that the shotstopper is ready to make the step up to Europe’s elite level.
Manchester City and Arsenal are also in the mix but their interest is said to be on a more long-term level instead of an immediate move, while Liverpool have also checked on Suzuki as a potential successor to Alisson.
However, Villa are said to be ‘far from concerned’ over the future of a player who signed a five-year contract in the summer, with an anticipation that Suzuki could become the most expensive goalkeeper in history if he does leave, exceeding the €80m spent on Kepa Arrizabalaga by Chelsea in 2018.
Zion Suzuki: Real Madrid standout contenders for Aston Villa’s ‘best goalkeeping prospect’
Suzuki has become an integral part of Villa’s team after the club opted to sell Martinez to Chelsea and put their faith behind a goalkeeper who impressed at the 2026 World Cup.
Villa are under no pressure to sell Suzuki and believe he is the most exciting goalkeeping prospect in world football, which is perhaps why some of Europe’s elite sides have taken a shine to him.
According to data analytics firm SciSports, Real Madrid represent the strongest option for Suzuki if he were to leave Villa, with a club rating of 81 out of 100.
Current number one Thibaut Courtois’ contract expires next summer and, while Madrid are expected to hand him a new deal, there is an ongoing focus to find the eventual successor to the 34-year-old.
PSG also rank highly after the Ligue 1 giants opted against pursuing Suzuki in the summer despite strong interest, with doubts still remaining over their current options.
However, with Villa still competing at a strong level, it is highly unlikely that they look to quickly cash in on Suzuki unless a world record bid is put on the table.
