Arsenal have Dowman red card appeal rejected with youngster handed three-game ban
Arsenal have had their appeal against Max Dowman’s red card in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town rejected, with the teenager handed a three-match suspension.
The 16-year-old was sent off for reacting angrily to a tackle during Arsenal’s shock cup exit.
Arsenal subsequently appealed the decision, but that challenge has been unsuccessful.
Dowman will therefore serve a three-game ban, handing Arteta another setback after his side were knocked out of the competition by League Two Fleetwood on penalties.
Speaking after the defeat, Arteta said he wanted to review the incident properly before passing judgement.
“It’s difficult to see, so I prefer to watch it back properly and then I can assess the situation,” he said.
Asked whether Dowman could learn from the experience, Arteta added: “Yeah, we’ll learn from everything.”
