Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya opens the door to a future move to Spanish football
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has said he would 'love' to play in La Liga later in his career.
Raya outlined his desire to return to Spain and play in La Liga, during an interview with Marca this week. The 31-year-old has evolved into one of Europe's top goalkeepers in North London, and helped Arsenal to Premier League title success last season.
He has won the Premier League Golden Glove in three consecutive campaigns and has been nominated for the 2026 Yashin trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper at the Ballon d'Or awards.
A childhood Real Madrid fan, Raya has spent his entire professional career in England, after joining Blackburn Rovers’ academy as a 16-year-old.
Asked whether he would like to test himself in La Liga, Raya said he was happy at Arsenal but would 'love' the opportunity later down the line.
“Yes, I would love to. I would love to try out LaLiga. For now, I’m very happy here [at Arsenal], but I would certainly like to experience the Spanish league," he said.
“I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and I’d love to play there — that’s for sure.”
Raya's current contract at Arsenal expires in 2028 and the Gunners could look to extend his terms to ward off La Liga interest. Arsenal have recently agreed a new deal for Mikel Arteta and are close to finalising terms with Declan Rice.
