Andoni Iraola making huge Liverpool mistake after major transfer development
Ever since the start of the 2026-27 summer transfer window, Liverpool have been linked with several different players.
They managed to bring four new ones in but, things still aren't quite right.
They're not doing as well as they should be in the Premier League and, although they may be unbeaten in the Champions League, they've been extremely lucky to come out with the wins they have.
One of the best ways for Liverpool to turn their fortunes around will be to enter the transfer market and add some extra firepower to their ranks.
Several options have arisen for the Reds but, there's one player that Liverpool don't seem to fancy going for.
And, on the face of things, that seems like a huge mistake on Andoni Iraola's part.
Liverpool aren't likely to re-sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in the future
Last season, it was clear that right-back was a big issue for Liverpool.
Injuries massively hindered their squad last term with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley spending more time on the sidelines than on the pitch.
This resulted in several midfielders plugging the gap at right-back and, while some such as Dominik Szobsozlai performed rather well, it was made more than clear that each midfielder used as a full-back would've been better off if they were played in their natural position.
Liverpool's lack of depth meant that Ronald Araujo was signed and, while he's good, his transfer is only a loan deal.
So, next summer, if the Reds choose against signing him, they'll still have a gap to plug and, since Trent Alexander-Arnold isn't having the best time at Real Madrid, some fans have suggested the Englishman making a return to L4.
Some fans have received this well and would take him back in a heartbeat whereas others would do anything in their power to stop his return.
The rumour mill has obviously been turning and, while Alexander-Arnold ticks a lot of the boxes that Liverpool need, it looks like Iraola and the rest of the recruitment department are against re-signing him.
Andoni Iraola is making a mistake by not trying to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold back
As mentioned, with the way Liverpool's squad is at the moment, Alexander-Arnold ticks a lot of the boxes that Liverpool require.
At this moment in time, they're lacking homegrown players and right-backs.
Indeed, Bradley is going to be on his way back soon but, if Alexander-Arnold returned, it would take so much pressure off the Northern Irishman's shoulders.
However, thanks to how many bridges he burned when exiting Anfield, Iraola clearly feels like there's too much hatred between some supporters and the Englishman for a return to be viable.
This is obviously a huge mistake on the Reds' part as, the creativity that Alexander-Arnold could bring back to L4 would be huge.
There's been a huge need within Liverpool for that creative spark since he left and, it genuinely feels like he could be the only one able to fill it.
The fact that he's out of favour with Jose Mourinho at the moment could also mean that he'd be available for a cut-rate fee, which, with how many new players Liverpool need to sign, could be hugely beneficial.
