That was a perfect afternoon wasn't it? Well, almost. On Sunday, Liverpool secured their first home Premier League win of the season, making it four victories on the spin across all competitions. The Reds beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield, ending the Seagulls' unbeaten start to the season; beforehand, Fabian Hürzeler's team had won four successive league games, scoring 15 and conceding none.

Nevertheless, the home side broke the deadlock after just 17 minutes, when Florian Wirtz' shot deflected in via compatriot Pascal Groß, giving Bart Verbruggen no chance. Then, just four minutes later, Olivier Boscagli was robbed in possession by Bradley Barcola, who burst in-behind and crossed for Alexander Isak to volley in.

This victory propelled Liverpool up to fourth in the table, and is certainly their most impressive result of the burgeoning Andoni Iraola era. The biggest cheer of the afternoon at Anfield though came shortly after full time, when the PA announcer read out the other scores, including Manchester United nil.... Bournemouth three!

However, there was one blot on an otherwise perfect afternoon. This is, the fact that Wirtz was forced off shortly after the interval. In the act of fouling an opponent, the German picked up an injury that ultimately saw him replaced by Trey Nyoni in the 65th minute, heading straight down the tunnel.

However, speaking in the press conference after the match, head coach Iraola was quick to alleviate initial fears that this is anything serious:

Unfortunately, he had to leave the pitch with a small twist of the ankle. It doesn't look very big, but we are playing every three days so we need to see where he is.Andoni Iraola on Florian Wirtz

With Dominik Szoboszlai and Víctor Muñoz already sidelined, Liverpool can ill afford to be without Wirtz for any period of time. Having bagged assists against LASK and Brentford, as well as scoring against Villarreal, and all but scoring on Sunday, albeit it has gone down as an own goal, any injury would not at all be timely for the 23 year old, who has struggled to show his best self on Merseyside. Also, the big games keep coming thick and fast for Iraola and his team. Liverpool host Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, before welcoming champions Arsenal to Anfield next Sunday. These are followed by a Champions League tie against Fenerbahçe at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, and then a trip to Selhurst Park. Thus, Iraola will hope that Wirtz's issue is nothing to worry about.
