AC Milan have reportedly established their interest in a mid-season swoop for Bruno Fernandes.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Manchester United skipper is growing ‘increasingly unhappy’ at Old Trafford, which could lead to a January exit materialising.

Bruno Fernandes: The state of play

Fernandes is tied down to a deal until the end of the campaign, meaning the winter window would be United’s final opportunity to recuperate a fee from his departure.

However, they do have the option of extending his contract until June 2028, allowing them to negotiate a summer sale if he is intent on leaving.

The 32-year-old was an unused substitute for the side’s 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth last Sunday.

It came after he publicly criticised Michael Carrick and the coaching staff’s tactical choices after being beaten 4-1 by Como last week, though the manager did clarify that Fernandes’ omission was purely a footballing decision.

Milan considering Fernandes offer

The Italian outlet now claims that Ruben Amorim has set his sights on a reunion with Fernandes in Milan, where he is overseeing his maiden term as head coach.

You’d imagine United would be completely closed off to the prospect, given just how influential their captain can be when at his best.

That being said, he has now gone eight games without registering a goal contribution, perhaps indicating his head is already elsewhere.

With Carrick set to remain in the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, it’ll be interesting to see whether Fernandes is restored to the starting XI, or if he features at all.
