Adam Wharton Reacts to Man Utd Transfer Talk: “Thanks for Telling Me, I Didn’t Know!”

Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has responded to transfer speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the finest progressive passers in Europe following his move to Selhurst Park from Blackburn last February.
Wharton won his first England cap last year and made their Euro 2024 squad, though didn’t register a single minute of game time as the Three Lions made it to the final in Germany.
However, the Palace midfielder did make Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for upcoming meetings with Serbia and Albania.
Wharton a wanted man
The youngster’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed either, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City reportedly tracking the Eagles star.
United are another side keeping tabs on Wharton as they look to bolster in the middle of the park in the New Year.
Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Jobe Bellingham have all emerged as targets for Ruben Amorim’s side, who failed to strengthen in midfield in the summer
And Wharton has since responded to talk of a January switch to Old Trafford ahead of Palace’s meeting with rivals Brighton on Sunday.
Palace star directly addresses transfer talk
“I don't really look into it or think too much about it,” Wharton told The Athletic as he directly addressed transfer talk.
“There are always rumours floating about on social media. Is it true? Is it not? You tell me.
“My friends, my family, my brothers, everyone will message me and be like, 'Is it true this club's interested?' I'm like, 'Thanks for telling me because I didn't know.'”
And on rumours of United’s interest, Wharton added: “I don't know who's spreading it or who at United is looking at it. I see it and I'm like, 'OK', and then I carry on with my day.
“United, the big teams, they're all linked to 10, 20 different players. If I'm one of 20, then it's nothing special, so it doesn't really mean too much. I speak with my agent about planning ahead and possibilities.
“But at the end of the day, it is who's interested and who's willing to try and get you and if that becomes the case? You can speak about it, but you've got to represent that on the pitch and prove that you deserve it.”
Palace have made a solid start to the season and sit ninth on 16 points ahead of the welcome of Brighton in the A23 Derby this weekend.
The Seagulls, meanwhile, are one point and one place below their rivals, and a win for either side would see them go into the international break in the top six.
