Leicester City youngster Louis Page explained what it was like to take the field on deadline day without knowing his fate amidst negotiations with Manchester United.

The 18-year-old is considered one of the most exciting young midfielders in England’s lower divisions.

He has been a regular feature with Leicester’s first team since last season, and he’s now considered key to Russell Martin’s plans.

Man Utd’s midfield overhaul

In the summer of 2026, Man Utd focused almost exclusively on revamping their midfield. With Casemiro leaving the club and Manuel Ugarte suffering a long-term injury, Kobbie Mainoo became the only survivor from last season.

Therefore, Jason Wilcox and Co. have three spots to fill, so they snapped up Andrey Santos from Chelsea, Youri Tielemans from Leicester City, and Carlos Baleba from Brighton.

Sadly for Michael Carrick, this reboot has yet to yield the desired results, with the club only picking up five points from as many Premier League games. One could argue that this is also due to the lack of investment in other departments, particularly the attack and the full-back roles.

At this stage, even the best betting sites are being left to guess, as MUFC are developing a knack for dropping points against opposition they beat rather comfortably.

The Reds will now try to use the three-week international break to reset, as a gruelling schedule awaits them afterwards.

Louis Page discusses chaotic deadline day

For all the talk about signing a new left-back and another striker, INEOS almost recruited a fourth midfielder in Louis Page.

The 18-year-old was on the club’s shortlist last summer, but the directors accelerated talks with Leicester officials on the final day of the summer transfer market. At one stage, it appeared as if the deal was about to go through, but the negotiations faltered.

While the two clubs were in active talks, Page was asked to take the field on deadline day, as Leicester hosted Plymouth.

The teenager put on a fine performance for the Foxes, helping the club secure a 2-0 victory.

Page looked back on the transfer saga, insisting that he only wants to give his best to Leicester while he’s at the club.

“It’s been a whirlwind, a lot of things going on, but I think for me it’s about concentrating on, I’m here at Leicester, I’ve got a contract at Leicester and my aim is to get this club back to the Championship and that’s what I want to do,” said the midfielder in his interview with BBC Radio Leicester (via the Manchester Evening News).

“For me, I was concentrating on, I knew I was playing, and I was like ‘whatever goes on in the background goes on, I don’t need to get involved with that’,” he said.

“I was like ‘right, it’s a massive home game for us, I just need to concentrate on playing, playing well, and making sure we win’, whatever goes on in the background will go on, if I play well then people will say good things. I think that’s what I just concentrate on, playing.”

That being said, the promising young Englishman admitted he enjoyed earning the attention of a top club, considering it a positive indication.

“I just took it as a positive, really, if clubs like that are interested in me, it’s obviously down to what I’m doing on the pitch, so as long as I keep doing better and better I can let people do the talking and I’ll just talk on the pitch.”
