6 losers (and only 1 winner) as Arsenal get served humble pie by Brighton

After a truly great start to the season, Arsenal left all their progress at the door before heading off on the international break.

Three goals conceded, zero goals scored. In many ways, this game could not have gone worse for the Gunners. Brighton were by far the better team, and they gave the Premier League champions a lesson in how to press, and how to maintain energy levels throughout the entirety of the match.

We could name the entire team, but let's jump into the biggest losers from today's frankly embarrassing loss.

1. David Raya

David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the world, but he didn't play like it in Brighton today. Both of Brighton's first-half goals were almost entirely his fault. It was like he was allergic to his goal-line, first beaten at his near-post and secondly reacting far too late to the shot. In the first half, Brighton produced just 0.33 xG, but by that point, Raya had already conceded twice.

2. Bruno Guimaraes

When we were in possession, he looked fine, but it was out of possession that truly irked me with Bruno Guimaraes. He provided absolutely nothing when Arsenal weren't on the ball; when applying pressure, he was the stark opposite of the Brighton midfielders who were more up for it today.

3. Christos Tzolis

Hasn't looked like himself since GW1, if we're being completely honest. Perhaps we overreacted to his Premier League debut, but my, oh my, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, he's struggling to get even a second rep.

4. Gabriel

Conceding three as a defender is never a good look, but Gabriel can have no complaints about the outcome given how he played. Dispossessed a total of three times; it was three times too many. He backed away from the ball for Brighton's second and stood idle as they slotted home from a corner for their third. He's seen some dark days at Arsenal, and this is one of them.

5. Bukayo Saka

Arsenal's attack was hardly to blame, but then again, they didn't score. Bukayo Saka was highly (and frustratingly) ineffective for the Gunners.

Aside from a few average corners, Saka did nothing to turn this game around. Came off with 10 minutes of regular time to play.

6. Martin Odegaard

Only lasted 73 minutes, but he was lucky to even make it that far. Virtually zero involvement from the captain today. In games like this, where there is little space to operate, you turn to Odegaard. He didn't want to be turned to today, a true shame.

1. Kai Havertz

We are picking from a pretty awful bunch, but one player should be spared from the embarrassment. Kai Havertz was Arsenal's best player, with his physicality helping the Gunners out on a few occasions. He had the chance to score one with a one-on-one, but it would have been a consolation goal at best.

It's not a standout performance he'll write home about, but he stood out nonetheless.
