Xabi Alonso gives date for major injury update on missing first team stars including Joao Pedro
Chelsea’s injured group keeps getting bigger, and according to an update from Xabi Alonso today, we shouldn’t expect many returns soon.
Xabi Alonso has a few players out injured right now, and while he was able to say that Emi Martinez could return this weekend, the rest of the updates weren’t as good.
Two key players currently out are first choice central defender Maxence Lacroix and star striker Joao Pedro. They’re both expected to miss a few weeks at least, and Alonso basically told reporters to wait for a more accurate update in a couple of weeks, after the international break.
“No, not really update. For sure, we are not expecting them for tomorrow. That’s clear. Let’s see after these two weeks of the international break, how is their recovery, the progress that they make, and, for sure, ahead of the Leeds game, I will have more updates, but not today.”
Hato still out, Chavarria should be ready to replace him
Alonso also had some information on Jorrel Hato, who is also going to have to wait until after the international break for a return, it seems:
“No, no, no, he’s he’s he’s not fit. He’s not fit,” Alonso confirmed.
“It will take some more weeks. Not not, not yet to be close, so maybe after the international break, but it’s going to take longer.”
The good news is that Pep Chavarria appears to be fit to play in Hato’s place this weekend.
In other news…
Xabi Alonso insisted that Wesley Fofana is more focused now, and should be in line to show some improved form in the weeks and months to come.
The manager gave an important update on Moises Caicedo, who missed a training session earlier this week. The Basque was infuriatingly vague, as ever.
