Wilder hopeful but admits doubt over new Sheffield United signing

Chris Wilder remains hopeful Sheffield United can add another new signing to his squad but says a player must first leave the club before they can complete a deal.

The Blades have identified a potential addition in the forward area, but an unnamed player Wilder inherited is currently occupying a place in the 25-man squad and must be moved on before anyone else can be registered.

“We’re working really hard. There’s two scenarios,” Wilder said.

“We have to move one of the players out, which is becoming a problem, because at the moment he’s part of the 25-man squad, a player that I’ve inherited. So that’s becoming a difficult situation.

“Hopefully we’ve found a solution to that and we’ll bring a player in.”

Wilder revealed Sheffield United are working within a limited market but believes they have found someone capable of improving his squad.

“The market for a particular player, especially a forward, is a very small one, but we feel that we’ve found somebody that can add to the group with versatility, availability, experience as well, and quality and ability,” he said.

“We feel we’ve got somebody that can help us out this season but it all depends on if we can move a player out of the building to register the player that we’re interested in.”

Wilder warned that the prospective deal will collapse if the Blades cannot secure the required departure before the registration deadline, however.

“It’s all dependent on the player going out,” he added.

“If the player doesn’t go out and the registration window is shut, we won’t be able to do anything.”
