Jim Goodwin was frustrated that his Dundee United side couldn’t hold onto their 2-1 lead against Celtic last night to secure an historic victory in the East End of Glasgow…

The Tannadice outfit hasn’t won at Celtic Park in the league since the early 1990s and that wait continues after Liam Scales headed home a fine delivery from Jota who replaced Callum Osmand on the left-wing at the interval.

Celtic’s early goal from Camilo Duran was described by the Dundee United gaffer as a gift but Martin O’Neill could probably say the same thing about United’s second goal which rocked Celtic after conceding an equalisers just a few minutes earlier.

After the 2-2 draw Goodwin spoke to DUTV to give his post-match thoughts on what was a tense evening in the east end of Glasgow.

“We showed a great reaction after giving Celtic a gift for the first goal,” Jim Goodwin said, as reported by The Courier.

Goodwin, who praised fellow Irishman Liam Scales for his header that levelled the contest added: “We knew that we would have to suffer and dig deep in the second half – and Celtic can be relentless.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t hold on but I am very proud of my players,” the Dundee United boss said.

He added: “They dug in at the end and got an important result to keep the unbeaten run going. I also think we played decent football at times, as well as being resilient.

“Before the game, we would have said it was a decent point. But having led for as long as we did, of course we are disappointed. We aren’t going to over-celebrate a draw.

“But I am glad the players have something to show for their work. October has been a good month for us, points-wise. And that is after, in my view, leaving some points on the table.”

Dundee United remain in fourth place in the table and Celtic remain four points clear after the latest round of fixtures. The two sides separating Goodwin’s team and the Scottish Champions played each other at Tynecastle last night and that match finished in a 2-2 draw with former Celt Calvin Miller on the scoresheet for Hearts.

Elsewhere Dundee beat struggling Kilmarnock 3-1 at Dens Park, Falkirk won 1-0 up at Pittodrie against Aberdeen to give John McGlynn’s side a huge confidence boost ahead of their home match this Sunday against Celtic. That’s three wins from three for Falkirk who clearly will fancy their chances against Celtic.

There were two other draws last night in the Scottish Premiership with St Johnstone and Motherwell also sharing four goals while it was one each in Paisley when St Mirren were held by Hibs.

That valuable point was enough to take Hibs off the bottom of the table as pressure mounts on Kilmarnock boss Neil McCann. His team are now bottom of the Scottish Premiership with eleven matches played.
