Wout Weghorst grabbed the headlines on Sunday afternoon not just for his crucial goal in the 3-2 win over PSV. The FC Twente striker also left people baffled shortly before the second half kicked off with a striking ritual on the centre spot. Footage of the moment sparked a flood of reactions on social media.

Back out before anyone else after the break, Weghorst walked straight to the centre spot. Once there, he made several unusual snipping motions with his fingers, then clapped his hands several times before the other players returned.

ESPN caught the moment and shared the footage on X with the text: "Wout Weghorst seems ready for the second half ✂️." The clip was viewed tens of thousands of times in no time, and the reactions quickly piled up underneath the post.

Many users were highly critical of the scene. "Hilarious and worrying at the same time," one follower wrote, while another asked: "This isn’t AI, just to be clear?" There was cynicism too: "Do you have a Wout Cam these days?"

Others did not mind Weghorst’s antics, and some simply saw the funny side. "Had to laugh out loud," someone wrote, while another reaction read: "Haha, brilliant how Weghorst always generates lots of reactions whenever a tweet is posted about him."

One user tried to find a sporting explanation for the striker’s movements instead. "These are motor exercises to stay sharp... just try the first one with those fingers. Three-quarters of people can’t do it...," read one response beneath the footage from ESPN.

His focus after the break soon showed on the pitch as well. FC Twente trailed PSV 2-1 for a long spell, but in the 79th minute the forward made it 2-2 by coolly slotting past Matej Kovar in a one-on-one.

Then came the winner. Four minutes later, Daouda Weidmann completed the home side’s comeback for 3-2. Twente thereby handed PSV their first defeat of the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie season.
