Video: Liverpool knock out Tottenham to reach the League Cup last 16

An exciting match

Liverpool booked their place in the round of 16 of the English Football League Cup with a thrilling 3-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield tonight, in the third round of the tournament (the round of 32).

Alexis Mac Allister broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Cody Gakpo doubled the lead in the 54th.

Tottenham refused to roll over. Conor Gallagher pulled one back in the 69th minute to set the match alight.

Liverpool held firm, though, and Dominik Szoboszlai settled it in the 90+1 minute to end their opponents' hopes.

Spurs had reached this stage by hammering Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the previous round.

The nine Premier League teams playing in European competitions, namely Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Sunderland, all entered the Carabao Cup in the third round.
