Video: Disaster from Dane Murray as Benfica take the lead through cheeky penalty
Celtic have gone behind within five minutes at the Estadio da Luz after Jhon Duran converted from the spot. The ex-Aston Villa star stepped up after Dane Murray’s moment of madness resulted in a penalty being awarded. The young defender didn’t see the Benfica player in his blindspot and went to clear the ball without seeing them nip in front of him. It was a straightforward decision for the referee with Murray having no complaints for the carelessness.
Since going behind, Celtic have forced the Benfica goalkeeper into making two saves with Kasper Hogh and Mika Baur forcing Trubin into a double save.
Murray’s lapse of concentration has been a concerning pattern from the lofty central defender. Last season saw a number of clangers from Murray, something that he appears to be struggling to eradicate from his game. Dundee boss Steven Pressley wanted to take him to Dens Park with a view to assisting his development but Celtic rejected the move, preferring to keep him around.
