Video: Al Ahly overcome Zamalek to move temporarily top
Al Ahly settled the Cairo derby in their favour on Sunday evening, beating traditional rivals Zamalek 2-0 in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The Red Devils bossed the first half and got their reward in the 39th minute, Mohamed Hany finding the net.
Zamalek came out swinging after the break, with Chiquinho Banza the liveliest man on the pitch.
More than once the equaliser looked certain. Mostafa Shobeir had other ideas, pulling off save after save.
Mohanad Lasheen then settled it in the 80th minute, lashing home from outside the penalty area to double the Red Giant's lead.
Victory took Al Ahly to 16 points and the summit of the Egyptian league, at least until Pyramids face Ceramica Cleopatra.
Defending champions Zamalek, meanwhile, stay frozen on 13 points in third.
