Video: a few metres from a historic throne: Hamdallah strips Al-Soma of another record
The Moroccan star matches a rare feat achieved by the Syrian star and Salem Al-Dawsari
Moroccan star Abderrazak Hamdallah has added another chapter to his remarkable career on Saudi pitches, hitting a new landmark on Saturday in the Saudi Roshn Pro League.
Al-Taawoun travelled to Al-Diriyah in the ninth round and fell behind to Clayton Diandy's goal in the 50th minute. Hamdallah levelled it up 16 minutes later.
Opta data now lists Hamdallah as the player who has scored against the most different teams in Saudi Pro League history.
He drew level with Syria's Omar Al-Soma and Saudi Arabia's Salem Al-Dawsari. All three have found the net against 27 different teams in the competition.
Four clubs have carried him to that mark: Al-Nassr first, then Al-Ittihad, by way of Al-Shabab, before his switch to the "Sugar of Qassim" in last summer's transfer window.
The Hamdallah and Al-Soma battle: a new step
Saturday's strike also breathed fresh life into the race to become the Saudi Pro League's all-time top scorer. It was his 159th goal on Saudi pitches, leaving him three away from Al-Soma's record and sole possession of top spot.
On total goal contributions, that goal against Al-Diriyah pushed him clear. Hamdallah now has 184: 159 goals and 25 assists. Al-Soma stopped at 183, made up of 161 goals and 22 assists.
