Until summer 2025 he was still playing in the 3. Liga! Jürgen Klopp is apparently set to cause a sensation with DFB nomination

More and more names are emerging ahead of the upcoming DFB squad announcement. Apparently, Jürgen Klopp is bringing a complete no-name into the national team.

According to a report by Bild, the national coach will hand midfielder Felix Keidel of promoted Bundesliga side SV Elversberg his first call-up to the Germany squad for the upcoming Nations League matches.

The 23-year-old would be a surprise inclusion, given Keidel has so far played in just three Bundesliga matches. He has been with Elversberg since summer 2025. Before that, he played for FC Ingolstadt in Germany's third-highest division.

Those early displays in the SVE shirt, though, appear to have convinced Klopp. Keidel played the full 90 minutes in the wins against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and MSV Duisburg in the DFB Cup, and last weekend he was on the pitch for 73 minutes against Bayern.

Alongside playmaker Lukasz Poreba, he has mainly featured in central midfield. His natural first-choice position, however, is at right-back, the area where no other player has managed to nail down the spot in the Germany team in recent times.

When will Jürgen Klopp announce his Germany squad?

Klopp will officially announce his final squad for the Nations League matches against the Netherlands, Serbia and Greece next Thursday. Some decisions have already leaked out.

Among those expected to be included are the as-yet unestablished Bayern trio of Lennart Karl, Tom Bischof and Jonas Urbig, while the two Frankfurt players Jonathan Burkardt and Younes Ebnoutalib are also said to have received an invitation from the national coach.

On Tuesday evening, Ajax Amsterdam coach Michel had already confirmed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will celebrate his return to the national team. World Cup squad member Oliver Baumann, by contrast, is apparently somewhat surprisingly not set to be nominated.
