After a disappointing half a season on loan with AC Milan, Niclas Füllkrug has found his shooting boots again with Werder Bremen.

Füllkrug continues to score plenty in Germany. The striker was the star of the match between Mainz and Werder Bremen, which ended 2-3 in favour of the away team. He scored a brace that moved him on to eight goals in seven Bundesliga appearances.

The match against Mainz saw Füllkrug score twice in the first half. The German striker broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, converting a penalty past the goalkeeper Schwolow. In the 25th minute, he converted his second penalty of the day, again calmly converting it to complete his brace.

As a reminder, Füllkrug was with the Rossoneri in the second half of the 2025-26 season, arriving on loan from West Ham in January 2026. He wore the No.9 shirt for AC Milan, but failed to find much consistency in front of goal.

During his time at AC Milan, he made 20 appearances overall and scored just once, starting three times and coming on as a substitute in the other 17, for a total of 662 minutes played. His penalty miss in the away match in Pisa was also noteworthy.

Indeed, a comparison with his start to the Bundesliga season highlights a significant difference in his scoring performances in the two different years. In Germany, the former West Ham player seems to have rediscovered consistency.

He is back at a club where he finished joint-top Bundesliga scorer in 2022-23, alongside RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, a player who is also enjoying his return to Germany.
