Roberto De Zerbi told Omar Marmoush exactly what he must do to become a real threat
Tottenham Hotspur attacker Omar Marmoush is under a lot of pressure to lead this line and be Spurs leading goal scorer. After failing to make any sort of an impact last weekend in a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest as the starting center forward, Roberto De Zerb decided to change things up quicker than expected by shifting Marmoush over to the potentially more comfortable position of the left wing with Dominic Solanke starting in the middle.
Well, Marmoush was just as poor, cutting a frustrated figure and having pretty much the exact game he did against Forest the previous weekend. Marmoush created very little danger, struggled to move the ball out wide, and offered no real goal threat for Spurs as they were shut out for a fourth straight game.
Marmoush is an exciting player who averaged more than a goal per game in his final half season with Eintracht Frankfurt before his initial winter move to the Premier League, but he has not been a real threat to score since then.
Omar Marmoush needs to score some tap-ins
Even before the Tottenham Hotspur game against Everton, Roberto De Zerbi challenged Omar Marmoush to score more goals and to focus on not just scoring the brilliant goals he has in the past but to start scoring the easier ones.
De Zerbi said, via Arabic Spurs, "In terms of goalscoring, Marmoush is not Harry Kane, but he is capable of scoring more goals than he has in the last two seasons. In Frankfurt he scored a lot of goals. He is capable of scoring more and he has to demand that of himself. Even the easy goals, he needs to change his habits after getting used to scoring brilliant goals."
Everything Roberto De Zerbi said there is spot on, and it is worth noting that all the greatest goal scorers at top clubs became such players because they understood how to position themselves and take advantage of the tap ins. All goals count the same, whether or not they make the highlights, and whlie Marmoush is no Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, or even Dimitar Berbavov, all these great attackers became so great because they knew how to score the gimmes.
Omar Marmoush has not shown that quality yet, and Tottenham fans can very much tell that, even looking at his follow up game against Everton. De Zerbi already told Marmoush what to do, and now he needs to practice.
