"Rest in peace, Vinicius": Diomande steals the spotlight "Rest in peace, Vinicius": Diomande drives a new nail into "the Brazilian star's coffin"
He scored a superb goal against Racing.
Yan Dioumande kept up his hot streak for Real Madrid on Sunday, the Ivorian firing home a stunning goal against Racing Santander in La Liga.
Dioumande had started on the left wing against Villarreal in the eighth round, with Vinicius Junior left on the bench.
He scored in that game to hand his side the win. The same match saw Vinicius sent off and handed a four-match ban.
Vinicius missed the clashes with Sevilla and Barcelona, sat out Sunday's trip to Racing Santander too, and will also play no part against Valencia.
Many feared Real Madrid's attack would suffer without Vinicius, especially given Dioumande's patchy form early in the season. Instead, the Ivorian has stolen the show.
Three goals and an assist in his last four La Liga games tell the story, and he has added a goal and two assists across his last two Champions League outings.
Such form has sparked talk that Dioumande could hold onto his starting spot at Vinicius' expense once the suspension is served.
The commentator on Sunday's game had his own take, declaring after Dioumande's wonderful goal: "Rest in peace, Vinicius".
He went on: "This is what is on the tongues of Real Madrid's fans now after Dioumande's brilliance in Vinicius' absence".
Dioumande began the campaign in fits and starts before settling into the side. In total he has featured in 14 matches, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
