Reports: RedBird studying acquisition of Al-Nassr as €200m debt looms over PIF
In recent months, there have been suggestions that AC Milan’s owners, RedBird, could buy a stake in Al-Nassr and the latest update has arrived.
It hasn’t been uncommon for RedBird to be linked with Saudi Arabia in recent years. On several occasions, Gerry Cardinale has flown to the Middle East seeking investment and there were even rumours that the Public Investment Fund could try buy Milan.
However, it never happened and things went a little quiet where the Rossoneri and Saudi Arabia were linked. Now, though, the noise is growing again.
Cardinale offered majority stake
As Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Al-Nassr are in €200 million worth of debt and the PIF are studying a sale to the American investment firm. It had been suggested previously that RedBird could lead a group into a minority share of the Saudi Pro League outfit, but it could be something more now.
In fact, the latest reports suggest that Cardinale could be offered a majority stake in the club, equal to around 70%. Such a stake would be worth around $267 million, with Cristiano Ronaldo also holding a 20% stake.
Of course, this would be a substantial investment. Nevertheless, with Cardinale’s investments in the Rossoneri this season, it’s clear that he’s open to deepening his investment in football, especially if it benefits Milan
