Reports: Gabbia leaves on crutches with four-month absence feared – Amorim’s words
There was a rather sorry sight during Sunday’s draw with Sassuolo as Matteo Gabbia had to be stretchered off the field.
Gabbia was named in Ruben Amorim’s starting line-up for the first time last night against Sassuolo, but his match only lasted about 20 minutes as he was forced to leave the field with a muscle problem in his left leg flexor.
The defender immediately appeared to be in severe pain and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher as he was unable to walk unaided. As reported by MilanNews and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the player left the Mapei Stadium on crutches and will undergo tests today to determine the extent of his injury.
Amorim immediately approached Gabbia before he returned to the dressing room on a stretcher. After the game, the coach was asked about his condition.
“I still don’t know the exact type or extent, nor how long his recovery will take. It’s clear that Gabbia is a key player for this group, regardless of whether he starts or not. An injury like that hurts, and I also felt all the pain he was feeling at that moment,” he said.
