Palmer withdraws from England squad with Gibbs-White his replacement

Morgan Gibbs-White is set to be recalled to the England squad after Cole Palmer was ruled out of the upcoming international break with a minor injury.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s initial selection for the Nations League fixtures but is now expected to replace Palmer.

Tuchel admitted on Friday that Gibbs-White had been close to making the original squad, with the 26-year-old now in line to return to the international set-up.

Palmer had been recalled after missing out on England’s World Cup squad, but the Chelsea forward is now set to withdraw with a muscle problem.

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford on Friday and has started six of the club’s seven games this season.
