Only six wins in 26 games: Davide Massa will officiate Milan’s encounter with Genoa
By: Isak Möller
The experienced Davide Massa has been appointed to the game between AC Milan and Genoa, set to officiate his 27th game involving the Rossoneri.
Milan desperately need to pick themselves back up after what was an embarrassing mid-week display, losing by two goals to nil against Ferencvaros at San Siro. They could have had a better opponent up next, though, as Genoa have been in red-hot form lately.
Four wins in the last five games speaks for itself and the game will be played at the Marassi as well, not San Siro. In short, this could be a difficult one for Ruben Amorim’s men, also judging by the referee who has been appointed to the game.
More draws than win
The referee in question, as stated in the intro, is Davide Massa. He’s one of the most experienced referees in the league but certainly hasn’t seen eye to eye with Milan in the past, even if there was no real controversy last season.
He has officiated 26 games involving the Rossoneri, with a majority of those ending in draws (12). There are at least more wins (8) than there are defeats (6), but we have definitely seen better records for the Rossoneri.
The most recent game was the 2-0 win away at Cremonese last season, and the one before that was the 1-1 draw away at Fiorentina. There were no strange calls in either of those. In fact, there was a 50-50 foul just before Milan’s equaliser in the second game, but Massa opted not to blow the whistle.
