National League side Forest Green Rovers will not immediately look for a new manager after the departure of Robbie Savage, with owner Dale Vince suggesting the club intend to “try something new”.

Savage left at the start of October for a role with Peterborough in League One having spent a little over a year in charge in Gloucestershire.

But even with the club languishing towards the bottom of the English fifth tier, Vince believes that no new appointment is necessary with a trio of coaches currently overseeing the side.

“Nobody’s in the frame, nobody’s connected to the job, at the minute there’s no vacancy,” Vince said to BBC Radio Gloucestershire. “At the moment, we’re going to try something new, we’re going to see how it goes, and we’ll see where it goes.

“We’re not in a hurry, and we aren’t actually having any conversations, we haven’t spoken to anyone about the role. We like where we are, we’re going to see how it goes maybe for a few games, maybe for a month.”

Coaches Josh Bowen, Yan Klukowski and Jonathan Gould have led Forest Green since Savage’s departure, and were in charge for a 4-2 defeat to Hartlepool on Saturday that extended the side’s winless run to five matches.

Bowen is the son of the club’s director of football, while Gould is a former Premier League goalkeeper and son of Bobby Gould – who guided an unfancied Wimbledon to FA Cup success in 1988.

“We’ve got a team of coaches that, between them, have an awful lot of experience; Premier League, Championship. We think between them they’ve probably got it. But also they know the players and the club inside out,” Vince explained.

“I think we won’t miss the manager, but let’s see. We’re just focused on being the best we can be. With this change imposed upon us, we’re trying to see if we can make something quite good out of it.”

Vince, a green energy business magnate, has been chairman at Forest Green since 2010.
