Moreira: ‘So happy at first Milan home goal, ready to start’ after three off bench
Diego Moreira ‘really loved’ scoring at San Siro in front of the Milan fans, and has a plan to convince Ruben Amorim he is ‘ready to start every game’ after three goals off the bench.
The Rossoneri had the weight of expectation on their shoulders after disappointing Serie A draws against Juventus and Lazio, then Wednesday’s humiliating 2-0 home defeat to Benfica in the Europa League.
Christian Pulisic made his first start of the season after an injury with USMNT at the World Cup, and promptly scored his first goal at club level since December 2025, a gap of 266 days in which he had 39 shots on goal without finding the net.
He also contributed to the second goal from Adrien Rabiot, starting the move with a back-heel flick, then Diego Moreira rounded out the 3-0 victory over Lecce.

Diego Moreira has now scored three goals in three Serie A games, despite only playing 127 minutes of football in the competition.
Even more remarkably, the three goals all came in his last 75 minutes on the pitch.
“Not bad!” he laughed on DAZN Italia when told that statistic.
“I really love scoring at San Siro, it means a lot to me and my family, I’m so happy to score a goal in front of the fans, to get the win and a clean sheet. Now with the break for international duty, I want to be fresh and have a new energy to come back.”
Despite not being in the starting XI, Moreira doesn’t seem disgruntled at his current super sub role.
“I’m someone that knows what I want in my life and career, so it’s important to stay focused. I don’t start, but I came off the bench and scored, so I just have to give the team my maximum. I have to keep working, keep believing, and that is how to show the coach that I’m ready to start every game.”
The Belgium international has Portuguese heritage, but also played in England with Chelsea and France for both Olympique Lyonnais and RC Strasbourg.
“I understand Italian, but I can’t speak it well yet. I speak four languages for now, but by December I hope to speak five!”
