MN: Furious Amorim gave long speech to Milan squad after Ferencvaros loss – the details
By: Oliver Fisher
Ruben Amorim held a discussion with the team after the full-time whistle in the defeat to Ferencvaros, a report has claimed.
Milan lost 2-0 to the Hungarian side at San Siro last night, further complicating their Europa League campaign. The current table reads just three points earned in four games, which has seen the Rossoneri drop out of the top 24 spots.
More worrying than the result was the team’s performance. The first-half showing was slow and laboured, but even when the big names came on in the second half, the team never gave the impression of being able to mount a comeback.
The sloppy goals conceded are a clear reflection of everything that went wrong, with individual errors and an attitude that’s hard to explain, especially after the resounding win against Inter in the derby just a few days ago.
Dressing room dressing down
According to MilanNews, Amorim gave a long speech to the team in the dressing room after the match. There was a face-to-face discussion about this disappointing defeat and how it came about, including the wrong approach and numerous shortcomings in the overall management of the match.
It came after Amorim had given his thoughts on the game to Sky, speaking about a lack of desire and concentration, and about how he could not defend a performance like that despite normally going to bat for his players. A response is needed in Genoa on Sunday, or it could be a bitter break.
In the changing room he held everyone – including himself – accountable. The Portuguese also touched on some points that have been reiterated cyclically by various coaches since the post-Scudetto season.
Among these is the fact that Milan carry greater responsibilities than other clubs and that wearing the Rossoneri shirt is not a prize, but rather a new step in everyone’s career. The reference to how Strahinja Pavlovic trains was emblematic in identifying the Serbian as the standard to follow.
Obviously, Gerry Cardinale also wasn’t happy with the defeat against Ferencvaros, which comes after the derby victory and four days of work that made it even more emotionally impactful. The Milan owner is expected to return to Italy for Genoa-Milan on Sunday, and intends to further investigate the team’s ups and downs.
