Mikel Arteta: Bukayo Saka's quad injury 'doesn't look good at all'
Mikel Arteta has admitted Bukayo Saka's left quad injury "doesn't look good at all", with Arsenal now awaiting tests on the winger.
Saka was forced off in the 10th minute of Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
The 25-year-old felt his quad after angling his body awkwardly to play a pass, with no contact from Alphonso Davies, who had been challenging him moments earlier. He went straight down the tunnel and was replaced by Eberechi Eze, who scored Arsenal's opener.
Arsenal are yet to announce the extent of Saka's issue with tests set to take place. Arteta, however, is concerned.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Arteta revealed the club's medical staff shared his concern, though Saka was pictured walking without aid at full-time.
"It doesn't look good at all, but we have to wait and see. They are a bit concerned. A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news but we have to wait and see.
Asked whether the fixture schedule had played a part, Arteta pointed to the demands of elite football rather than workload, noting Saka had not started against Lille last Tuesday.
"The level of intensity these games require is something incredible. This is the highest level, and those things happen unfortunately."
The injury is another blow for a player with a recent history of fitness problems. Saka has struggled with Achilles and hamstring injuries in recent campaigns, missing 101 days with the latter issue in 2024/25.
Saka has appeared in all but one of Arsenal's 12 matches this season and has four goals, with Arteta now facing a dilemma to replace him. Noni Madueke is the obvious solution, while Saka's absence could hand more minutes to teenager Max Dowman. Arsenal are also without summer signing Christos Tzolis due to a groin injury.
The Gunners host Everton in the Premier League on Saturday, October 24, travel to Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, and then face Liverpool on November 1.
