Will Julian Nagelsmann make a timely return to the Bundesliga? If Roger Schmidt, successor to Jürgen Klopp in the RB universe, has his way, RB Leipzig are at least out of the question.

"That is completely normal nowadays in this business. You always have to deal with such topics again and again when you lose one or two matches," Schmidt said on Aktuelles Sportstudio on ZDF and stressed: "We are a long way from that."

Last week, Sport Bild and Sky were among the outlets to report that new coach Martin Demichelis was already under pressure after a weak start to the season, with only two wins from the first four matches, and that Leipzig were considering potential successors, including the former Germany coach, who was already in charge of the Saxons from 2019 to 2021.

Reports also claimed that Nagelsmann was not ruling out a return to RB, although he also had interest from the English Premier League. Schmidt flatly denied that Nagelsmann's name had come up at RB Leipzig. "Do you mean at RB Leipzig? Not that I know of. Not with me," said the new head of global soccer.

Is Martin Demichelis still firmly in the saddle at RB Leipzig?

Any coaching debate in Leipzig, if there was one at all, has likely been put on hold for now. On Saturday evening, the free-flowing Bulls swept Eintracht Frankfurt aside 6-0.

Schmidt added: "What we need is a certain continuity in the coaching position. At the moment we are happy with how things went today. Our coaches are getting maximum support, including from us in the global team. We are totally focused on that," said Schmidt, who officially took over the position at the company from Klopp on 1 October.

Speaking about Demichelis, he said: "I have experience with Argentine players - especially at Benfica - and I like their mentality. Most Argentine players have leadership roles at their clubs, they bring that certain extra that you need to win matches. That is the impression I got from him as well."

Next up for RB Leipzig is Tuesday's Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven. Then comes the Bundesliga top match away to Bayern Munich, before another trip in Europe's premier club competition to face Real Madrid.
