JJ Gabriel ‘is leaving’ Manchester United to join Real Madrid after a drawn-out saga over his future, as per The Athletic.

The 16-year-old has finally decided where he wants to ply his trade next, having informed United that he would be leaving in early September.

JJ Gabriel on verge of United departure

Gabriel’s decision came after he had not featured for the first-team in their opening matches of the season, with his camp making it clear that he was expecting to play.

He watched on from home as fellow academy prospects Shea Lacey and Harry Amass, both 19, were granted their Champions League debuts off the bench in United’s 4-0 win over Sabah on September 10.

Reportedly, the youngster was in line to make his senior debut just days later during United’s Carabao Cup opener at home to Brighton and Hove Albion, but he refused to train in the lead-up to the tie, ruling himself out of any involvement.

Gabriel rebuffs several suitors to join Real Madrid

Over the last two months, Gabriel — hailed as an outrageous talent by The Rest Is Football panel — has garnered interest from several European giants, with Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all keen on signing the wantaway Red.

He has remarkably come to the conclusion that Los Blancos is the most suitable next step for his career, despite the Spanish giants already boasting a plethora of attacking talent.

Plenty will argue that senior game time will therefore be even harder to come by for the Enfield-born attacker in Madrid, and if his agent father has already clashed with United staff before, it’ll be intriguing to see what Jose Mourinho makes of the dynamic and their demands when the move is made official.
