How many games Danks could cover after Vincent Kompany discharged from hospital
Vincent Kompany was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening.
The Belgian head coach had been airlifted to the hospital last Friday after collapsing while watching FC Bayern’s second team in training.
Following examinations, the club has released the following diagnosis: irritation of the meninges.
Vincent Kompany has been released from the hospital
The former Burnley head coach will have no doubt been proud to see news of his Bayern side producing another consummate display in his absence with a 6-1 victory over FC Magdeburg in the DFB Pokal.
A point of reassurance, really, is that while Kompany continues his recovery at his own pace, the club is in fine hands under assistant coach Aaron Danks.
For now, the focus for the Belgian head coach has to be on recovering on his own timescale.
How many games will Aaron Danks cover for Bayern?
Some commentators will no doubt be at pains to point out that victories over Magdeburg and SC Freiburg will be somewhat expected for a club of FC Bayern’s stature.
However, we would quietly remind neutrals that Freiburg were one of the in-form sides in the Bundesliga before the Bavarians’ visit to the Europa-Park-Stadion at the weekend.
That all said, an away trip to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League – sandwiched between Saturday’s Der Klassiker with Borussia Dortmund and the following weekend’s tie with Mainz – will be no picnic in the park.
But the immediate priority has to be ensuring that Vincent Kompany has the time and space to recover – regardless of the pressing nature of key fixtures in the schedule.
On that note, the 40-year-old is set to enjoy a break from the action until the next international break, as an absolute bare minimum. In that event, Kompany will miss the next handful of ties against Dortmund, Atletico and Mainz.
