HB Køge vs Barça Femení match preview
Can Barcelona continue their perfect start to this Champions League campaign? So far in this competition, Pere Romeu's team have enjoyed two emphatic victories, first demolishing Paris FC 5-2 at Estadi Johan Cruyff, despite actually going a goal down early on.
A week later, the holders annhialated Roma 6-0 at Stadio Tre Fontane; Caroline Graham Hansen and Clàudia Pina both bagging braces, before Ewa Pajor completed the rout in the Italian capital.
Barça are, undeniably, Europe's dominant force right now. The Blaugrana have featured in each of the last six Champions League Finals, winning four of them, very much expected to be in Warsaw next May.
At this stage of the competition, Barcelona topped last season's league phase and, with Arsenal, Servette Chênois and then Bayern Munich their remaining opponents, are forecast to do so again. So, will the European champions leave Denmark with three more points?
As for HB Køge, this is just the second time they have qualified for the Champions League. Back in 2021, they lost all six matches, conceding 22 goals, but have certainly been more competitive this time round. On matchday one, Kristian Mørch's team were extremely unfortunate to be beaten by Arsenal, denied a famous point by virtue of a 93rd minute penalty in Borehamwood.
Nevertheless, last time out, they did claim that historic first-ever win, and in some style, smashing Servette Chênois 5-1 at home. Macy Schultz, Nadia Nadim, Kyra Carusa and Emelía Óskarsdóttir all on target during an historic night.
Given that the Danish champions take on OH Leuven next, before concluding against Paris FC and Benfica, they'll believe this won't remain their only victory of the campaign. Nevertheless, on Thursday night, it is simply a question of how many goals will Barça rack up at Køge Stadium.
HB Køge team news
By netting on matchday two, 38 year old Nadia Nadim became the oldest women to ever score in the Champions League group stage or league phase. She will do well to break her own record here.
Barça Femení team news
Pere Romeu quite heavily rotated for the weekend win over Granada in Liga F, but all the big guns will return here. Ewa Pajor has scored in seven successie Champions League appearances, seeking to become only the third women to net in eight consecutive matches, after Hanna Ljungberg and Conny Pohlers.
Meantime, Caroline Graham Hansen will become only the fourth women to reach 100 appearances in the competition, the pair set to be joined in attack by Kerolin and Clàudia Pina. In goal, Cata Coll was presented with the Trophée Yachine on Monday, but is unlikely to showcase the full extent of her skills here.
