GdS: ‘We deserved even more points’ – Amorim pleased but with a tinge of regret
AC Milan’s return to winning ways yesterday against Lecce obviously pleased everyone, above all Ruben Amorim.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall this morning that owner Gerry Cardinale expressed his happiness with a statement after the game, not just because of the convincing nature of the victory but also the performance level seen.
Happiness and regret
The paper quote Amorim’s comments, in which he revealed his belief that his Milan side deserved more points than the 11 they’ve collected in these first five Serie A games.
“We deserved even more points. We could have won against Juve and Lazio. In Turin, we only conceded in injury time. In Rome, we created more chances. In recent games, we were rigid in our positions. This time, we had more freedom,” he said.
“We’ve improved, but we still have a lot to improve. It wasn’t all over the place: at times, it seemed that way, especially after the recent results, but we need to find balance. We need balance in our judgments. I listen to the players, but then I decide. We want to be dominant in all situations.”
Milan’s return to winning ways came in front of Cardinale, who has watched all five of the club’s league games so far. The Milan owner congratulated Amorim and the team not only on the result, but also on the way that they played.
“These were some of the best 90 minutes of football we’ve seen. I want to congratulate Ruben and our players for continuing to fight in these first matches before the international break,” the American said.
“It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that a new coach, with a new style of play and new players, will need time to find the right harmony. And I thank our fans for supporting us in this transition phase, as we try to put things right and return AC Milan to its winning tradition.”
After three games without a win and after the jeers at San Siro following Wednesday night’s defeat to Benfica, it was nice to sign off with a victory before the international break.
